Re-imagining the home buying experience

Alain Pinel is one the largest private real estate firms in the world. They wanted to re-imagine the home buying experience and invent a new approach to presenting properties and managing client/agent interactions. The result was a collaborative space for consumers and agents to communicate, organize and share information throughout the home-buying journey. 


Designing for HOMEbuyers AND SELLERS

A landing page is a critical opportunity to quickly engage users, and the challenge is amplified when designing for different users with competing needs and goals.

When designing for home sellers, we found their needs to be fairly straight forward: they want to get the best offer for their home, compare their home to similar homes on the market, and generally understand current market trends. In the seller view, we used the users location to immediately present relevant market information, including all of the homes recently sold in their area. 

On the other hand, home buyers' needs were more nuanced. Buyers aren't looking for just another search engine and Alain Pinel wasn't looking to compete with Trulia, Zillow, etc. Buyers are in the process of making a huge life decision that ultimately reflects who they are, their values, and their lifestyle. In the buyer view, we designed a new search experience reflecting this lifestyle-centric approach.


Designing for AGENTS: ITS ALL ABOUT relationships

The success of a real-estate agent is dependent on building and maintaining meaningful relationships with their clients. When we followed various agent's throughout their day, we found that a lot of their time was spent texting, calling, and emailing their clients, keeping them up to date on new homes on the market, their property status, etc. As a result, we designed a concept that focused on streamlining this communication for agents while at the same time providing a much richer experience for their clients.  

But agent's are busy, results-oriented professionals that don't have time for a hundred different tools and features. They need tools that are going to work for them. So, while the concept allowed agents to better communicate with their clients, it also leveraged AI to automate some of that communication. They could set up property alerts that would get automatically get delivered to clients in a way that felt more personal. They could gather feedback on those properties directly from their clients to further refine what they're looking for. They could automatically shared directions and property info when scheduling a viewing. Rather than designing specific tools and features, we designed a communication platform.
